Op 17 maart 2009 vond in Groningen het congres Develop Your World plaats. Frits Bolkestein trad op als spreker. Zijn stelling dat particuliere hulpverlening wel functioneert en overheidsingrijpen nauwelijks, lichtte hij toe met twee krachtige voorbeelden.

This is what he said.

I welcome this discussion with Prof. Fred Halliday on Islam, the Middle East and Europe for two reasons. Firstly, because of the importance of the subject and, secondly, because Prof. Halliday and I met almost exactly eleven years ago at the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study. It is a true pleasure to meet Prof. Halliday again.

The accession of Turkey to the European Union is a weighty and difficult matter. As far as possible it should be judged fairly and without prejudice, with a view to the long-term consequences for both sides.

Op 8 september 1991 hield Liberale Internationale een congres in Luzern met het thema Minderheden. Frits Bolkestein sprak er over Minderheden. In Open Forum (Volkskrant) dd 12-09-1991 lichtte hij zijn uitspraken toe.
